The Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method is a medically designed protocol containing two key components – weight loss and a healthier lifestyle education.  The two elements of IP assist you in maintaining your results once the program is complete, though some say they are never done with IP because the education changes your life! Our protocol has evolved for over 20 years, but was originally developed over 20 years ago by Dr. Tran Tien Chanh.  Dr. Chanh focused his career and research on nutrition, with a particular emphasis on the treatment of obesity and obesity related issues.

“170, that’s my goal, I guess.”  When I had my initial weight loss consultation with Dr. Ryan I weighed over 240 lbs. and that simple task of setting a weight loss goal seemed like a pipe dream.  1989 was the last time I was a healthy weight.  I had lost 25-30 lbs. so many times in the past 25 years I should have faded away. 

 Initially I had joined the community weight loss challenge on January 15th.  I lost 7 lbs. in two weeks.  I knew at that point that I needed additional help to continue.  I read the material about Ideal Protein while waiting for an adjustment in Dr. Ryan’s office and I decided to attend a work shop.  It did make sense.  I was a victim of my eating habits and my poor pancreas was racing.  My blood sugar would plummet if I did not load up on carbs every couple of hours.   I had eliminated most dairy from my diet in the past year to try and help my poor joints.  I was already cutting back on some sugars…… I was ready and this seemed like the help I needed.

 January 28th was my start date.   When I weighed in on July 15th I was 171.8…… not 170, like I thought, but yowza, unbelievable.  In 24 weeks I have lost 71.2 lbs. and 81.2 inches. 

 I have completed Phase 2 and was able to continue the weight loss.  I decided to start Phase 3.  I have learned so much (THANK YOU, Nicole and Ryan) about how food affects my body.   I have set a new goal, a weight range in the 160’s…..that will give me some “wiggle” room to enjoy life and stay healthy. 

 Each phase of the Ideal Protein plan makes sense.  In Phase 3 I am gently restarting my pancreas.  This is a huge difference to other programs that I have tried.  Slowly reintroduce foods.  I am reading about Phase 4, learning how foods work together and when is the best time to eat carbs, fats and proteins.  There is even encouraging tips about indulging, slip ups and lifelong maintenance.     

 Knowledge is power.  I am confident that I have developed the mind set and the skill set to continue this healthy lifestyle.  I feel great, I have energy and I have the most amazing support group at Hansen Family Chiropractic.
